February is the second coldest month of the year in Lanzarote with similar temperatures to January. On the plus side, there is usually plenty of sun, with an average of 7.2 hours of sunshine per day.
Daytime High Temperatures
Daily maximum temperatures typically reach 20 – 22°C with some days hitting 25°C. While that might not sound very high, it will typically feel quite a bit warmer on most sheltered sun terraces during sunny afternoons. The absolute record high temperature at Lanzarote Airport during February is 29.4°C recorded on the 25th of February 2020.
Temperatures at Night
Nighttime temperatures typically drop to around 14°C around the coast, with some nights as cold as 11°C. Away from the coast, temperatures can drop even further, and could be as low as 8°C in places such as Uga or Tias. The record low recorded at Lanzarote Airport was 7.6°C on the 7th of February 2018.
Rain
February gets an average of about 6.5 days of rain, though in some years it doesn’t rain at all. The average total rainfall is 18.2mm for the month – a number heavily skewed by years when there were torrential downpours. When is does rain, it can often last for a few days as a weather system passes through the islands.
Cloud Cover
There is an average of 2.8 completely overcast days during the month of February at Lanzarote Airport and there are often some clouds in the sky – especially out to sea. The north-western part of the island is, in general, a lot cloudier than the popular resort towns on the south coast.
Wind
February is one of the least windy months in Lanzarote with a median wind speed of 19.5kmph at the Airport.
Dust from the Sahara
The Canary Islands are particularly susceptible to episodes of Calima (wind-blown dust from the Sahara Desert) at this time of year. Although these episodes don’t bring soaring high temperatures during the winter months, the thick dust can be unpleasant.
Sea Temperatures
The sea is quite cold at this time of year in Lanzarote, with an average of about 18°C. While a few hardy souls might be able to brave this for a quick dip, a light wetsuit is recommended for any water-based activities such as snorkelling, diving or surfing.
