The exclusive marina development of Puerto Calero is located 10Km from Arrecife Airport and a short 3km walk via a coastal path to Puerto del Carmen.
Building the marina began in 1986 with the original 200 berths operational by 1989 (developer Jose Calero saw the potential for the area due to its sheltered location). Expansion to both the marina and local area have resulted in one of the most exclusive and pricey areas on the island, with the area behind the marina occupied by luxury hotels and villas.
Puerto Calero’s beating heart is the Marina, now expanded to 420 berths, and waterfront with its numerous upmarket cafes, restaurants and bars along with designer label shops for those with money to burn. For the more adventurous, there are a number of day trips and activities available from the marina including scuba diving, fishing, sailing, catamaran and submarine excursions.
There is no beach in Puerto Calero, with the nearest one being a 4km walk away (Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen). Nightlife in Puerto Calero is centred around the restaurants and cocktail bars (no karaoke here), so if you are looking to dance or sing away until the wee hours, then head to Puerto del Carmen.
If you plan to see other parts of the island and want to visit a few beaches, then we would recommend hiring a car.
