Bus stops while camels cross road
A bus stops while camels cross the road near Uga, Lanzarote

Public buses can be a good option for getting around Lanzarote and connections with the island’s airport have improved dramatically in recent years. For the size of the island, there are a good number of buses and routes and fares are quite low. The price of your journey depends on how far you travel; the bus from the airport to Playa Blanca, for example, costs €3.30 one way, per person. Local journeys cost less.

Buses in the Canary Islands are known as Guaguas (pronounced Wah-wah) – a term that is also used in Latin America, but not elsewhere in Spain. The public bus company on Lanzarote is called Intercity Bus (formerly Arrecife Bus).

BBL (Bono Bus Lanzarote) is a reusable, top-up bus card that can be purchased on most buses or at the main bus station in Arrecife and gives users 10% discount on all fares when using the Bono card. This is worthwhile if you are planning to tour the island using public transport.

You can check the balance of the card in the automated machines on the buses, or simply ask the driver once he has taken your current fare from the card.

Payments aboard the bus must be made either in cash (notes no larger than €10) or by using the contactless bono cards. Contactless mobile, debit or credit cards are not accepted (10/01/2023)

I can only find information for a journey from playa Honda to arrecife but not the reverse journey, ie arrecife to playa Honda.
    Can you help me please?

    • administrator

Hi, If you look at any of the timetables, they have a column for departures from both ends of the route. So for route 21, there is a column for Estacion (Arrecife Bus Station) and another for Playa Honda. The one that says ‘Play Honda’ at the top, means departures from Playa Honda.

Unfortunately access to this bus is difficult as there are steps when boarding and leaving. There is a hold for luggage, bicycles, wheelchairs etc. However boarding is an issue.
Many of the shorter local routes on the island do have good access utilizing buses with floors that can be lowered, but this route is not one of them.

Is there a bus from Playa Blanca to Porto Calero if so ,how can I get hold of a Bus Timetable ?

Yes there is – the 161/261. Please see the link in the above article for the timetable.

Hello are there any buses from Puerto del Carmen to playa honda and playa blanca? I just arrived and I’m struggling to find buses and the taxis are very expensive.

    Thank you,

    • administrator

Hi, The number 2 and 3 bus routes stop at both Puerto del Carmen and Playa Honda. The 161/261 route stops at Puerto del Carmen on the way to Playa Blanca.

Hi i need a bus from the airport to Club Los Molinos, do i need to change at Arrecife, can you help please?

    • administrator

Hi, Yes, Club Los Molinos is in Costa Teguise – so you will need to change in Arrecife (alternatively you could book a transfer).

  5. Gill Bevan

Hi. Do you know where we can get a list of Arrecife bus fares from please?

    • administrator

Hi, The Aqualava water park is within walking distance from the centre of Playa Blanca, the number 30 (internal Playa Blanca route) passes by the water park, and taxis are also cheap as long as you stay within the Playa Blanca urban area.

    • administrator

Hi, No, there are no public buses to El Golfo from anywhere on the island.

  6. Martyn Phillips

Is there a bus from the airport to Calle Suiza, Los Pocilos and where would be the best place to catch the bus to.

    • administrator

Hi, No, you would need to take the number 3 to Arrecife and then the number 60 from there to Puerto Calero.

Hi, can you get a bus from Costa Teguise to Playa Blanca to get the ferry to Fuerteventura? Planning a day trip on foot, Thanks in anticipation, regards Iain.

    • administrator

Hi, There is no direct bus, so you would need to get the number 1 to Arrecife, and then the number 60 from there to Playa Blanca.

  10. Thomas Gallacher

Hi, my son is in a wheelchair and cannot walk at all. We recently got the bus from Playa Blanca to Puerto Del Carmen ( The 161- airport bus) . The driver can operate a lift at the middle doors of the bus, however some drivers are reluctant to do it. As there is a space for wheelchairs and also a seatbelt to strap the wheelchair in, can you confirm if it’s Inter City’s policy to carry wheelchair bound passengers or is it down to the driver’s discretion. A Spanish gentleman spoke to the driver on our behalf and after his intervention the driver then allowed the wheelchair on the bus.

  11. Thomas Gallacher

Hi can you tell me how long it takes the number 30 to arrive at Virginia park after leaving the bus station . Regards Tommy

I need to get to Haria for 10am from Playa Blanca during the week.
    What buses do I need?

    • administrator

Hi, You would need to get the 5:45am number 60 bus from Playa Blanca to Arrecife, then the number 7 at 8am to Haria.

  13. Helen

Hi, are there any buses that go from Puerto del Carmen towards the national park? Thank you

    • administrator

No, there are no buses from Costa Teguise to Papagayo. You could get a bus to Arrecife, then a bus from there to Playa Blanca, then the number 30 bus from there to Las Coloradas (and walk a few km from there).
A more practical solution would be to hire a car.

  14. bob

We are arriving at the cruise terminal in lanzarote , Is there a direct bus from Arrecife to playa Blanca thanks

    • administrator

Hi, Yes, you can get the number 60 bus from Arrecife to Playa Blanca, however the bus station is quite far from the Port, so you would need to get a taxi from the Port to the Bus Station.

Can I get a bus directly from Tahiche to Costa Teguise, or do I have to go via Arrecife?

  25. Reg

Hi do the buses run from costa Teguise to the Teguise market on the Friday Evening. And do pensions get a discount? thank you

    • administrator

Hi, The Teguise market is held on Sundays, and as such, the bus to the market only runs on Sunday mornings. As far as I’m aware, the pensioner’s discount is only for Spanish resident pensioners who have the contactless card.

  26. Bob

Is, there an Arrecife town bus? One that travels from the bus station to the harbour area?

    • administrator

There are some municipal buses in Arrecife that operate some circular routes (06.30 – 21.00 Monday to Friday – from 8am on Sundays), however these connect Arrecife’s suburbs, rather than the bus station to the port.

    • administrator

No, there are no toilets on the bus – it is a regular public transport type bus (the journey takes less than an hour).

  27. Rachael Howlett

Hi are the only buses from Uga to Playa Blanca? I can’t see any to Puerto Del Carman.

    • administrator

Hi, The 60, 06 (infrequent version of 60), and 61 (also infrequent) stop at Uga from Playa Blanca. You could get a taxi from Yaiza, which is very close to Uga.

    Thanks

  34. Rob Baum

Two questions, 1) landing on Dec 24th at 11.30 – are there buses running to Playa Blanca and 2) Is it possible to book the bus?

  35. Martyn LOCK

Can I put my bike box in the luggage compartment of the bus from airport to playa blanca?

    • administrator

Yes, as long as there is a luggage compartment under the passenger area on that particular bus (there normally is), though other passengers’ regular bags and suitcases have priority.

  36. Darren Griffin

What bus do you get from matagorda to playa blanca and how often is it and how much return

    • administrator

Hi, The bus is the 161 – see the link above for timetable (roughly every half hour during the day). It costs around €3.30 each way.

    • administrator

Not directly, though you can get a bus to Arrecife, and then take a bus from there to La Santa (see links above for routes and timetables).

  37. Stan moore

We are travelling from the airport to costa teguise on the line 3 bus, can we pay on the bus or do we have to buy a ticket beforehand. Thank you

  38. Janna Hinchliff

Hi, these timetables don’t give any indication of how long the bus takes – I need to get from costa teguise to lanzarote airport to arrive by 9am on 29th April. I can see which route I need to take but I have to change in Arrecife and have no idea what time I will arrive there. Where is this information?

    • administrator

It will take between 60 – 90 minutes for your journey.

  39. Rachael day

    Hi
Is it 2pm from Las brenas to playa blanca on the 60 route please
And is there a bus from Las brenas to the airport please ??

    • administrator

The bus leaves Arrecife at 2pm – it will arrive at Las Breñas about 40 – 60 minutes after that.
There is no bus to the airport from Las Breñas.

    • administrator

No, there’s no bus between Famara and La Santa. You would need to get at least 2 buses (changing in Arrecife), so public transport isn’t really an option.

  40. Steph

Hi, can you get a bus from playa Blanca to jameos del agua please? If so what one would I need and the times please. Thankyou

    • administrator

Hi, There is no direct bus, so you would need to get the number 60 bus to Arrecife, and then a number 9 from there to Jameos del Agua. Please see the links above for timetables.

    • administrator

If you want to visit the Teguise Market (Sundays), then you can get the special number 13 bus direct from Playa Blanca to Teguise. Otherwise, you will need to get the number 60 to Arrecife, and then either the 7, 9 or 10 to Teguise.

Hi are there any buses from Costa Teguise to the Jardin de cactus please, or any recommend buses from Costa Teguise that are worth doing

    • administrator

Hi, Not directly, you would have to either go to Arrecife or Tahiche first, and get the 7, 9 or 26 from there to Guatiza (Cactus Garden).

  45. Mike and Ali

All these times are a very ROUGH GUIDE to the ACTUAL times. It could be 1/2 hr sometimes even an hour either side of times given!

    • administrator

Hi, There was a ‘Tourist Mini-Train’ that serviced that route – however I’m not sure if it still operates. Arrecife has three municipal bus routes, and you may be able to use the ‘Lanzadera’ Route, timetable here: https://www.arrecife.es/node/69
Though, in all honesty, the local taxis are cheap for short journeys like that one, and a lot more convenient.

  46. Robert

Hi! I was wondering if I want to change the buses, do I tell the first driver the final destination or do I have to buy separate tickets? Thanks a lot!

    • administrator

Hi, yes, both the no. 2 and no.3 routes are stop at Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen.

  47. Paul

Is there a timetable of Buses going from Playa Blanca to various parts of the island and if so can you include a direct link in your response. Finding links to those previously mentioned cannot be found.

    • administrator

Hi, The only buses from Playa Blanca are the number 161 and 60 routes (links to the timetables in the main article above). I’m not going to add new links here, as IntercityBus have a tendency to change the addresses, and I try to keep them up-to-date in the main body of this page.

  48. Kathleen Bell

Hi – we hoped to go to Yaiza today from the bus station at 12.00 on the 60 bus – the bus came in, let people off but didn’t allow us to get on – he drove off with an empty bus without explaining what was happening – can you explain this? At least ten people were hoping to get on the bus. We took a taxi in the end.

    • Judy

Was it the playa blanca bus station if so you have to cross over the road and pick up the bus at that opposite stop. My husband and I were travelling to Arrecife in May for a day out. Went to the bus station to catch the bus but some helpful people informed us we had to cross the road. So maybe the same applies. Hope this is useful

  49. Patrick Daly

Can I put a suitcase on board bus 161 at matagorda bus stop?
    Thank you.

    • administrator

As long as the hold isn’t full, then yes, you can put your suitcase in the hold.

  50. Geraldine Redfern

    Hello,

We are staying in Costa Teguise in January and one person in our party uses a walking aid. This has wheels and folds up so is portable. Would we be able to travel on public transport to Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca and take this on board.

    Thank you

    • administrator

Hi, There is a hold for luggage on these buses, so I would imagine that you can place it there.

  51. Iain Ferguson

Does the general contactless (10% non resident) card, with a small amount of credit remaining, expire after a certain period of inactivity?

Hi, Not that I am aware of, however in the past, card types have been replaced and the old cards have ceased to function.

  52. Wendy Parker

    Hi,

Is it possible to get a bus from Costa Tequise to catch the ferry at Orzola across to La Graciosa?
    Travelling next week
    Thanks

    • administrator

Hi, Not directly, you would need to get the no.3 to Arrecife Bus Station, and then the no.9 from there to Orzola.

  53. Jamie Ellerington

Hi, are there any buses which go directly to la geria vineyard? Or if nothing direct, what bus would get me closest? Thank you

    • administrator

Hi, No, there are no buses to La Geria. The nearest stops would be Tegoyo (05,19,34) or Uga (06,60,61), so you would need to walk about 4km.
